Arakan Rohingya Union (ARU): A Global Effort for Political Resolution and Rights Restoration

The Arakan Rohingya Union (ARU) is an internationally recognized non-profit umbrella organization committed to seeking a peaceful political resolution for the Rohingya ethnic minority's challenges in Myanmar/Burma. The ARU is dedicated to restoring their citizenship to ensure political and human rights, fostering harmonious relations with fellow ethnic groups in Myanmar, and enhancing socio-economic, cultural, and educational infrastructures for the advancement of the Rohingya people. Formed on principles advocating for an indivisible Arakan State within the territorial integrity of the Union of Myanmar, the ARU seeks to accomplish its mission through peaceful coexistence, democratic governance, human rights advocacy, and federalism.

Registered as a non-profit advocacy in the United States (Entity #4051717; EIN #61-1667515), the ARU represents a unified effort to address these significant issues.

Preamble of the ARU Constitution

We, the representatives of Rohingya political and socio-cultural organizations, gathered at the historic Rohingya Convention held on May 30-31, 2011, at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Headquarters in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia:

United by a shared desire to work collaboratively towards a just and enduring political solution to the enduring Rohingya issue through peaceful means.

Recollecting that a significant portion of the Rohingya population has been displaced and believes in the right of return to their historical homeland in Arakan with honor and dignity.

Acknowledging the vital importance of preserving the culture, history, and cultural heritage of the Rohingya people, alongside fostering respect for other religious and indigenous cultures in Arakan.

Inspired by the initiative of OIC Secretary-General H.E. Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu per Resolution No. 4/37 – MM, supporting cooperation and unity among Rohingya entities under a unified coordination council.

Encouraged by the Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 9th, 2010, at OIC Headquarters, advocating the creation of the Arakan Rohingya Union to enhance coordination.

Aware of the millennium-long historical presence of the Rohingya in Arakan and their significant contributions to its socio-economic development, despite contemporary challenges to diminish these historical truths.

Committed to the principles of peaceful coexistence, democratic values, human rights, and unity among Rohingya and Rakhine as essential for progress in Arakan.

Recognizing the importance of reconciliation and collaboration with the Rakhine community and the broader democratic and ethnic nationalities in Myanmar for the restoration of genuine democracy.

Convinced that without coordinated efforts and the support of the Rohingya community and international partners, sustainable solutions will remain elusive.

Determined to continue the struggle against the ongoing persecution, striving for the restoration of fundamental rights and equality within Myanmar.
